South Devon Tutors operates as an online directory and information platform, helping parents and carers find independent tutors operating across South Devon.

We are not a tutoring agency and do not employ tutors.

2. Definitions

• “We”, “us”, “our” refers to South Devon Tutors and Porter Education Limited.

• “Tutor” refers to an independent, self-employed individual listed on the directory.

• “Parent” or “Client” refers to any person using the website to locate tutoring services.

• “Directory” refers to the searchable tutor listings on our website.

3. Nature of Our Service

South Devon Tutors provides:

• A searchable online tutor directory

• Information relating to tutor qualifications and experience

• Optional verification indicators

• General guidance for parents and tutors

We do not:

• Provide tutoring services

• Arrange lessons

• Set tutor pricing

• Handle payments

• Act as an agent for tutors

• Enter into contracts on behalf of tutors or families

Any agreement for tutoring services is made directly between the parent and the tutor.

4. Tutor Independence

All tutors listed on the South Devon Tutors directory:

• Operate as independent, self-employed professionals

• Are responsible for their own tax, insurance and compliance

• Set their own fees, availability and teaching approach

• Contract directly with parents

South Devon Tutors accepts no responsibility for the delivery, quality or outcome of tutoring services.

5. Tutor Verification

Some tutors may display Porter Education Verified status.

Verification may include one or more of the following:

• Confirmation of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

• Review of Enhanced DBS documentation

• Identity verification

• Safeguarding awareness confirmation

Verification reflects checks completed at a specific point in time and does not constitute an ongoing guarantee.

Parents are encouraged to carry out their own checks and due diligence before engaging a tutor.

6. Safeguarding

South Devon Tutors promotes safeguarding best practice but does not supervise tutoring sessions or have ongoing oversight of tutor–student interactions.

All safeguarding responsibility rests with:

• The tutor delivering the service

• The parent or legal guardian arranging tuition

Any safeguarding concerns should be reported directly to the appropriate authorities.

7. Parent Responsibilities

Parents are responsible for:

• Verifying tutor suitability for their child

• Agreeing terms, fees and schedules directly with tutors

• Supervising children during online tuition

• Ensuring appropriate safeguarding arrangements

South Devon Tutors cannot mediate disputes between parents and tutors.

8. Tutor Responsibilities

Tutors listed on the directory are responsible for:

• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date profile information

• Holding appropriate insurance

• Maintaining safeguarding standards

• Ensuring DBS certification remains valid

• Complying with all relevant UK legislation

South Devon Tutors reserves the right to remove listings that do not meet expected standards.

9. Directory Listings

We reserve the right to:

• Approve or decline tutor listings

• Edit listing content for clarity or consistency

• Remove listings at our discretion

• Suspend or terminate access without notice if necessary

Listing on the directory does not imply endorsement.

10. Payments and Fees

South Devon Tutors does not process tutoring payments.

Any fees paid for:

• directory listings

• verification services

• promotional placement

are payable solely to Porter Education Limited and are non-refundable unless stated otherwise.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

• South Devon Tutors shall not be liable for loss, damage or disputes arising from tutoring services

• We accept no liability for academic outcomes

• We accept no responsibility for agreements made between tutors and parents

Our liability is limited to the operation of the website itself.

12. Intellectual Property

All website content, branding, logos and materials remain the intellectual property of Porter Education Limited.

Content may not be reproduced without written permission.

13. Website Use

Users agree not to:

• Submit false or misleading information

• Misuse contact details obtained through the site

• Attempt to bypass security features
